One NFC East owner is going to be haunted by not drafting Russell Wilson for the rest of his life.
Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie is still kicking himself over not being able to draft Wilson in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
The Eagles were looking to take him during that round, but the Seattle Seahawks drafted him with a higher pick.
Wilson is a player we didn’t get, and I’ll always regret it,” Lurie said. “It was someone I really wish we had drafted in the second round and didn’t wait
But we really didn’t think that anyone would jump us and take Russell, so that was that.”
Philadelphia ended up taking Nick Foles with its third-round pick in that draft which turned out alright.
Foles led the Eagles to their first Super Bowl in franchise history in 2018 over the New England Patriots.
Foles wasn’t anything special after that season, but it was still a pretty magical run.
Wilson has been one of the best quarterbacks in football since he was drafted. He led the Seahawks to two Super Bowls (won one) and has thrown for 30+ touchdowns in five of his 10 seasons in the league.
The NFC East landscape would look a lot different today had Philadelphia just taken Wilson earlier in that draft and not waited.
